Type Policy Analysis
Program/Policy Description The process study created by a Managed Care Steering Committee involved a number of work groups, each of which were assigned to address a specific set of issues. Some of the work groups assigned to more technical issues, such as the development of federal waivers or accounting requirements for the managed care pilots, were composed mainly of CDHS staff who are experts in these areas.
The work groups met regularly throughout the summer of 1997, using a wide variety of strategies in studying and making recommendations on their assigned issues. They gathered information from other state and local child welfare agencies who are designing or implementing managed care systems. They examined and compared elements of public and private managed care systems in related areas such as mental health for their potential applicability to child welfare. Finally, they studied literature and receive consultation and technical assistance from national experts in managed care in child welfare and other related service systems. Work group reports were completed September 1, 1997.
