| Program/Policy Description |
Services to Substance-Abusing Caretakers: Provide two different levels of alcohol and other drug (AODA) treatment in Cook County to custodial parents with a child who enters placement, including custodial parents who deliver drug-exposed infants. Experimental Group A will receive AODA services and a Recovery Coach. Recovery Coach services will continue to provide support to the parent and child after initial AODA treatment to prevent relapse and facilitate reunification. In the second project year, Experimental Group B will receive an enhanced array of services in addition to the Recovery Coach; these services may include medically-managed detoxification and withdrawal services, drug-free housing, reunification/concurrent planning consulting, and home visiting nurses among other services. Control group participants will receive standard child welfare and AODA services. Major goals are to increase rate of reunification, reduce length of stay in foster care, reduce re-allegations of CA/N, and increase successful completion of parental AODA treatment. |
